Sarah van Vlymen

Sarah van Vlymen started playing the violin when she was 4 years old by following the Suzuki Method and continued learning with Miles Attwell and Jill Abercromby in Guernsey. Part of her formal training was with the National Childrens Orchestra. At the age of 13 she studied as a specialist musician at Wells Cathedral School under the guidance of Patricia Noall and received masterclasses with Yfrah Neaman, Philip Dukes and Mark Knight.

Whilst completing her BA Hons Music Performance degree at Dartington College of Arts Sarah also qualified to become an accredited Suzuki teacher. As part of her university placement she studied classical violin at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavík under Guðný Guðmundsdóttir and improvisation with Dan Cassidy. Further training has included the Dalcroze Foundation course which she completed in 2018 and currently she is studying at Masters level on the Postgraduate Certificate Course in String Teaching with the European String Teachers Association.

Sarah has taught violin and viola with the Guernsey Music Service since 2010 and regularly performs with local orchestras and bands. In 2010 Sarah formed her own string quartet, 'Lé Quartaette', which performs regularly in the Bailiwick and further afield.

Sarah has felt privileged to be the guest leader for the Guernsey Choral and Orchestra Society for the past seven years.
